The Shocking News about Flouride

When water fluoridation began in the 1940’s it was believed that fluoride needed to be swallowed in order to be most effective.  This belief, however, has now been discredited by extensive new research, and you should know the facts.  Why is our water fluoridated?  To reduced cavities in our children’s teeth.  The cover story in July 2000 issue of the Journal of the American Dental Association (ADA) states that fluoride ingested during the formation of teeth (before they break through the gums) does not create teeth that are more resistant to decay. Fluoride is an effective means of preventing cavities, but only when applied directly and regularly on the surface of existing teeth topically. Fluoride delivered topically with toothpaste and mouth rinses that are far more effective than when it is swallowed.  In November of 2006, the American Dental Association (ADA) advised that parents should avoid giving babies fluoridated water.  Even the Center for Disease Control (CDC) states, fluoride “predominant effect is post-eruptive and topical”.  According to research done by the World Health Organization, no difference exists in tooth decay between fluoridated and non-fluoridated countries.  So I will ask again, why fluoridate the water.

Did you know that for years fluoride has been classified as a toxic waste in this country?  And that it’s only approved use, other than our drinking water, is in insectides and RAT POISON.  Fluoride is a poison, and that is how your body treats it, as a poison.  Fluoride is the most chemically active nonmetallic element of all elements.  Which means it reacts with everything.  Why would we put this in our water, even if it does prevent cavities!  Try better oral hygiene and limit the amount of sugar and starches.  The sugar and starches are food for the bacteria that cause dental decay, remove the food the bacteria can not live.

The impact can be seen, literally, in the smiles of our children. Large numbers of U.S. young people—up to 80 percent in some cities—now have dental fluorosis, the first visible sign of excessive fluoride exposure, according to the U.S. National Research Council. (The signs are whitish flecks or spots, particularly on the front teeth, or dark spots or stripes in more severe cases.)   According to the National Research Council (NRC), adverse effects from fluoride ingestion have been associated with a risk of brain damage and thyroid activity that can lead to loss of mental acuity, depression, and weight gain.  Fluoride can diminish bone strength and increase the risk of bone fracture.  Animal and human studies – including a recent study from a team of Harvard scientists – have found a connection between fluoride and a serious from of bone cancer (osteosarcoma) in males under the age of twenty.  The National Toxicology Program as “biologically plausible” has described the connection between fluoride and osteosarcoma.  People with kidney disease have a heightened susceptibility to fluoride toxicity.  The heightened risk stems from an impaired ability to excrete fluoride from the body.  As a result, toxic levels of fluoride can accumulate in the bones, intensify the toxicity of aluminum build-up, and cause or exacerbate a painful bone disease known as renal osteodystrophy.  These are just a few risks, for more information research online at www.fluoridealert.org/fluoride-facts or www.keepers-of-the-well.orgThe American Academy of Family Physicians seems to believe it is still beneficial, although 97% of Western Europe has chosen fluoride-free water due to the side effects of fluoride.

There is a lot of new research on the effects of fluoride.  You need to be educated so you can decide what is right for you and your family.  Unfortunately even your dentist and hygienist may not be completely informed about the risks of taking fluoride.  Remember many dental schools are still teaching their students that fluoride is more of a benefit then the toxic poison that it is. And when you decide take a stand.  There is an online petition to end fluoridation and call for a congressional hearing at www.actionstudio.org/public/page.  For more information go to www.fluoridealert.com, keepers-of-the-well.org.
